Important: The counterattack is coming

Friends,

You, the voters, have elected a strong group of conservatives in Collin County. As Collin County grows in population, our voice in political circles will also continue to grow. For example, we now have five State Representatives in Austin and we are attempting to gain a permanent seat on the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Executive Board.

This conservative success by you, the voters, means that we must now prepare for the counterattack by those who believe that Collin County should be more moderate, collect more of your hard-earned dollars, and support more government spending.

There is a military principle that as soon as you achieve success; you consolidate and prepare for the counterattack because it WILL COME.

The 2014 election cycle will produce that counterattack in the form of contested races against our conservative elected officials. Plan on it. Prepare now.

The first step is to realize that we, as conservatives, must stand together. One disagreement or one vote should not divide our conservative movement. We are strong enough to realize that we will not always agree on every issue or every vote, but we have a common goal of limited government and maximum freedom consistent with civil society. Link arms and stand together against what will be a concerted counterattack.

The second step is to make use of the conservative vetting committees that have sprung up over the past few election cycles. These committees have greatly expanded the wide-spread knowledge of candidates’ actual political principles well beyond their public statements, and should continue to assist the conservative voter. The conservatives who serve on these committees put in a tremendous amount of time interviewing candidates in service to you, the voter.

Realize that other vetting organizations, more moderate in their views, have sprung up. We should expect this. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Be careful whose candidate ratings you follow. There are wolves in sheep’s clothing. Look at the
organizations founders/supporters to figure out who is who.

One of the tactics that will most likely be used in the counterattack will be the notion that the moderate candidates are “reasonable”. Growth of government is, for the time being, widely accepted in many circles, including Republican circles here in Texas – witness the Republicans leading the fight to expand Medicaid under Obamacare. Witness the “local match” required to pull down federal grants of every conceivable description, critical or not.

Hopefully, this inclination toward every expanding government will change when the impacts of huge and growing government become evident. We must be optimistic that we can turn the huge ship of state when that day comes.

In the meantime, Collin County must remain a bulwark of fiscal responsibility in Texas, giving maximum opportunity to our citizens to expand their horizons and raise their families in peace.

If you believe that conservative values work, prepare now to defend our conservatives.

Sincerely,
Keith

As we prepare for the 2014 election cycle, I ask that you forward my emails and Facebook posts to your circle of friends. 2014 is an important election year (they all are these days).
